| A new LNG carrier was ordered in 2001 from the Korean shipyard of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for delivery in 2004. The new ship is of a different design, using the membrane containment system and looking more like a conventional ship. It is currently planned that the ship will deliver some of the additional 4.2 million tonnes per annum of LNG from the expansion of the processing facilities. With the length of the 287 metres, a beam of 43.4 metres and a draught of 11.5 metres, the new ship will be slightly larger with a capacity of 137,500 cubic metres. Launching of the ninth LNG carrier in the NWS Fleet took place in Korea in May 2003. The vessel will be operated by Chevron Transport Corporation (CTC) and will fly the British flag. A naming ceremony for the new vessel was held in Okpo, Korea on Wednesday 17th March 2004. She was relieved of her unromatic title 'Hull 2214' and officially named the Northwest Swan by Mrs. Jane Ann Gass (wife of Mr. John Gass, President of Chevron Global Gas). Final delivery of the Northwest Swan took place from DSME on Wednesday 31st March 2004.
